Monday of the Twenty Second Week in Ordinary Time. Year II. 1 Cor. 2:1-5; Luke 4:16-30
Soon it’ll be 2027, and election campaigns have officially started for political parties and their flag bearers. Some of our politicians are already on various media platforms to present their manifestos. But the average Nigerian does not trust these manifestos or those reeling them out, because experience has shown that many politicians in Nigeria do not walk the talk. But Jesus Christ is no politician. He comes to his home town of Nazareth today, goes into the synagogue and presents his mission statement unequivocally. He concludes saying, “today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
Friends, Jesus Christ, Son of God, came to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives and to the blind new sight, to set the downtrodden free, to proclaim the Lord’s year of favour. But remember that even as Jesus spoke these words, there were those among the about 20,000 inhabitants in Nazara, who never took him that seriously. They believed he was merely Joseph the Carpenter’s son. But Jesus meant business, and he spent everyday of his life on earth walking the talk till he was killed. Jesus’ mission is now ours. Do we walk the talk?
