Saturday of the Twenty-Ninth Week in Ordinary Time. Year II (Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary). Eph.4:7-16; Ps.120; Luke 13:1-9
There are times when the gospel message comes across very harshly. Today’s gospel reading is one of such. Jesus makes it abundantly clear that bad occurrences do not necessarily happen to greater sinners. But when we’re too buried in sin, refusing to change our ways, then we can be sure that we shall perish. It is in this context that we must understand the recent incidence where a Catholic Priest was crushed to death by a Crucifix…”
The real enemy therefore isn’t death, or how death comes, but whether or not we’re ready when death comes. Friends, just as Mary kept Vigil on that Saturday that her Son lay buried in the tomb, we too need something of her vigilance, something of her faithfulness, and something of her maternal example and discipleship. In today’s first reading, St Paul reminds us that God has given us graces; which we must use in service of Him and neighbour as we strive daily to build up God’s Church. What are we waiting for? It’s time to be fruitful, that we may not be cut off from our heavenly inheritance.
God bless your weekend. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for Us!
