Saturday of the Thirty-First Week in Ordinary Time. Year II (Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary). Phil.4:10-19; Luke 16:9-15
Do you know anyone who can’t part with money? It will be difficult for that person to make heaven. Money truly belongs to no one. It doesn’t matter how much we have worked hard to get it. When money does not change hands, when it does not ease suffering, when it does not leave our store houses to make things better for our families, neighbours, brothers and sisters, then it’s useless. The one who is attached to money can’t be generous, and in the unlikely chance that he/she parts with money, it’ll only be for selfish interests.
Friends, one who’s ready to serve God doesn’t worry too much about money, food or clothing. St Paul tells us that about himself in today’s first reading. Let us therefore become more like the Philippians who use their resources to make sure that Paul had all he needed. Let us use money, tainted as it is to heal the world and make it a better place. We cannot serve God and Mammon. Let us become more like Mary, who always considered the needs of others before hers. Let us pray for the grace to learn to use money and material possessions wisely, that we may not lose what truly matters at the end of it all, Amen.
God bless your weekend. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for Us!
