I must appreciate the National Assembly for approving the Bill seeking to bring back our old Anthem. And I must also thank Mr President for passing this Bill into Law.
If not for this act, I would not now be compelled to write this. For as I looked at this ‘old’ (now new) anthem, I realised how much of an irony it has become, compared to our extant situation. But I’ll spare you the details.
Let’s take a moment and ponder on the second stanza of this anthem:
“Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign,
In peace or battle honour’d,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.”
Now I have some questions. Why did EndSars happen? Why did Nigeria kill her own youth who held on to the flag? Why did we hand to our children a banner with stains?
Answer these, and perhaps this action will take on some semblance of sanity.
