Saturday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time. Year II. Phil.1:18b-26; Ps. Psalm 42:2.3.5. R. 3ab (R.14a); Luke 14:1.7-11
When we realise that we are nothing without God’s grace, we learn to focus on the things that truly matter. St Paul, in the first reading is convinced that to live is Christ, and to die is gain. He explains the struggle he has of choosing to depart this world, and be with Christ, or to stay on account of the body of Christ. St Paul knew his place, and strove daily to maintain his post. He understood that in life or death, Christ will be honoured in his body.
Friends, it is quite important not to forget that we too are sinners, redeemed by God’s grace. When we stay humble, taking the lowest seats at all times, God will definitely raise us up. This is the grace formula; “For every one who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” We must therefore realise that we do not know more than Jesus Christ, like the Pharisees always tried to do. We must empty ourselves, that we may learn something of God’s grace, God’s mercy, and God’s compassion. May we find the courage to do the needful, ad Paul did, Amen.
Good morning dear. God bless your weekend.
N.B: Today, being the last day of October, the Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria has asked that we begin our prayers for peace in our country Nigeria, and for free and fair elections come 2027. We’re encouraged to do our Rosary processions today as parishes, fast, and pray for Nigeria.
