The Labour Party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, on Sunday paid a visit to Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The closed-door meeting took place at Obasanjo’s penthouse residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, a venue renowned for hosting high-profile national figures and global leaders.
Obi, who was accompanied by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidients Movement, and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, exchanged warm pleasantries with the former president before settling in for discussions.
Although the details of their deliberations remain undisclosed, the meeting has sparked interest across political circles. Many observers believe it could be part of ongoing consultations by Obi as he continues to position himself as a key voice in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Chief Obasanjo, often regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential statesmen, has played a significant role in shaping democratic discourse and has been known to counsel politicians across party lines. His meeting with Obi once again underscores the strategic alliances and dialogues that continue to shape the country’s evolving political direction.
The presence of the Obidients Movement leadership and Rhodes-Vivour further highlights the sustained momentum of Obi’s support base, particularly among young Nigerians who rallied around him during the last election.
As speculations mount on the nature of their discussions, one thing remains clear: Nigeria’s political space is witnessing renewed engagements, with Peter Obi and his allies keeping close ties with key national figures.
