Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Easter (Opt. Mem. of Our Lady of Fatima). Reflection by Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)
Acts 15:1-6; John 15:1-8
When a little stone is thrown into a large body of water, it causes ripples. Though the stone is small, the ripple effects go far and wide. In the first reading, Paul and Barnabas continue to work, and when the problem of circumcision of converts arose, they went to Jerusalem to seek clarification. Their ministry had ripple effects on the people, because they were grafted onto Jesus the Vine.
Recently, in one of our WhatsApp group chats, someone asked why we do Marian devotions in May and October. On May 13, 1917 (103 years ago), Our Lady appeared to three little Children; Lucia dos Santos, and her cousins, Jacinta and Francisco Marto. These visions always occurred on the 13th day of each month from May to October. On May 13th 2017, Jacinta and Francisco Marto, who were beatified by Pope Saint John Paul II were canonized by Pope Francis, at the centenary celebrations of the apparitions at Fatima.
How did three little children from an unknown village cause such groundbreaking ripples all over the world? May we, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, come to realize that a life of prayer and conversation, creates positive ripples all around us. Amen.
