Tuesday of the Twenty Fifth Week in Ordinary Time. Year II. Prov. 21:1-6.10-13; Luke 8:19-21
After many years of living in sin, the man finally decided to let it all go. He knew it would be extremely difficult to stop masturbating and fornicating. He knew he still wanted to hang out with his friends late into the night and get drunk. His body still craved carnal pleasures. But he was determined to try. By God’s grace he knew he would succeed. As he made this decision, joy filled his heart and he had much peace within. He had become part of God’s family.
Friends, we can’t continue living our lives without some conscious spiritual road map. The book of proverbs shows us that rejecting wrongdoing and working for the advancement of justice and fairness, especially for the downtrodden, is true wisdom. It’s not enough to believe in right injunctions; we must go ahead to take practical steps to put them into practice. This is how we become members of God’s family. Why else did Jesus Christ say to us today, ‘My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and put it into practice?’

May God give us the grace not to be merely hearers, but doers of his word, Amen.
