Monday of the Twenty Seventh Week in Ordinary Time. Gal. 1 :6-12; Luke 10:25-37
I remember that one time I saw someone lying by the side of the road as I drove past at nightfall. Something told me to stop and check him out. He may have been in need of help. He may have been hurt… But I found all the excuses to keep driving. This was a crazy country, I didn’t know if it was a trap. I was not ready to put my life at risk for the sake of another. I failed woefully that day, and the memory continues to haunt me till date.
The Samaritan in today’s gospel reading was not ‘seen’ as a good man by any stretch of the Jews’ imagination, yet he it was who ‘went out of his way’, put his own life at risk and took care of another human being who had earlier been abandoned by a Priest and a Levite. Friends, most times, it’s not really about knowing the law, it’s more about how much effort we make in trying to come to the rescue of those in need, even if they are our sworn enemies. Are we ready to go out of our way today to help someone we do not necessarily like?
God bless your week ahead.
