Tuesday of the Twenty Seventh Week in Ordinary Time. Year II. Gal.1 :13-24; Luke 10:38-42
Activity does not automatically translate to progress. Take the story of the two drunken men for instance. They had gone across the small river behind their home, in a canoe, to take a drink. But things got out of hand and they drank to stupor. When they were done, they got into their small canoe and rowed all night, yet they didn’t get home. It was when morning came, and they were a bit sober, that they came to realise they had been rowing their boat without releasing the ropes with which they had tied it up the previous night.
Friends, it’s not enough to be full of zeal and enthusiasm. Saul was full of zeal. He wanted to be an impeccable Jew. But in as much as he faced the wrong direction, he made no progress. Jesus had to redirect him. What about Martha? She was working for Jesus, trying to make him feel at home, but Jesus needed her to sit and listen first before anything else. Sometimes, we’re so busy doing good things, we forget to sit at the Lord’s feet. Unless we take direction from Jesus, we run the risk of expending all our energies, barking up the wrong tree. May we, like Mary sit and listen at the Lord’s feet, so that by sitting at the Lord’s feet, we can better redirect our zeal, Amen.
God bless your day ahead.
