Life can become so noisy that we forget to listen.
We rush from one responsibility to another, trying to solve every problem, please everyone and keep everything together. Yet, somewhere in the middle of our busyness, we can lose sight of the One who gives meaning to everything we do.
In today’s Gospel, Martha welcomes Jesus into her home, but becomes overwhelmed by her many tasks. Mary, however, sits at the feet of Jesus and listens. Jesus does not condemn Martha for serving. Rather, He gently reminds her that she is anxious and worried about many things, while only one thing is truly necessary.
How often are we like Martha?
We serve, work, struggle and plan, but forget to pause and listen to God. We may be physically present in church, yet our hearts are somewhere else. We may pray, but our minds are consumed by tomorrow’s problems.
Jesus invites us today to rediscover the better part: His presence.
The first reading gives us another beautiful reminder through the life of St. Paul. He once persecuted the Church, but God’s grace transformed him into a passionate preacher of the Gospel. His past did not have the final word. Grace did.
This means your mistakes do not have to define you. Your failures do not cancel God’s purpose for your life. The God who transformed Paul can transform you too.
Today, slow down.
Put down the worries you cannot control. Sit quietly before God. Listen before you speak. Pray before you panic. Trust before you fear.
The world may demand that you do more, but Jesus first asks you to remain with Him.
When Christ becomes our priority, our hearts discover the peace that busyness can never give.
Lord Jesus, teach me to choose the better part. Quiet my anxious heart, deepen my faith and help me recognize Your presence in every moment. Amen.
