The Catholic Diocese of Issele-Uku, Delta State, Nigeria, has announced the passing on to glory of one of her priests, Rev. Fr. Michael Ogboi.

Fr. Michael Ogboi was my classmate. We both attended the spiritual year of St John of the Cross, Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria, in 2003, after which he proceeded to the Major Seminary of All Saints, Uhielle, Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria, for his Seminary formation.

In a statement of her official Facebook Page, the Diocese wrote:

“With total resignation to the will of God, the Catholic Diocese of Issele-Uku announces the call to glory of one of her priests, Rev. Fr. Michael Ogboi, which event took place on the early morning of Thursday, 3rd December 2020. He was aged 48.

Fr. Michael Ogboi, a native of Idumuesah in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State was ordained a Catholic priest on 24th day of August, 2013. After his ordination, he worked in some parts of the Diocese, which included St. Jude Catholic Church, Oduke, St. Columba’s Catholic Church Agbor and St. Dominic Catholic Church Otolokpo, where he worked as the assistant Parish Priest until his death.

Rev. Fr. Michael Chuks Ogboi was an energetic priest, who loved the priestly work passionately and spent himself for the work till the very end.

He died after a brief illness and would be buried at the Priests’ Cemetery Issele-Uku on the Tuesday, 15th December 2020 after a Funeral Mass by 10am at St. Paul’s Cathedral Issele-Uku.”

Fr Michael Ogboi was a very humble and jovial priest. He will be sorely missed.

I pray for his family members, his parishioners and all of us left to mourn him, that God may grant us the needed fortitude to bear this great loss.

May the soul of Rev. Fr. Chuks Michael Ogboi, and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

God bless you greatly.
