As contribution to the fight against the novel Coronavirus pandemic, the present First Lady Aisha Buhari and the former First Lady Patience Jonathan, in a meeting at the Presidential Villa, reached an agreement to release the Abuja Hotel to be used as an isolation centre pending when the viral disease is eradicated

The Abuja Hotel is a 200-bed five-storey building which is located off Mabushi Kado Expressway, Abuja at Plot No. 1758, Cadastral Zone, B06 Mabushi, and Plot No.1350, Cadastral Zone, A00 Central Business District.

It is estimated to be worth about N2 billion and has since been under interim forfeiture which was secured by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on April 30, 2018.

Reports state that the hotel will be officially handed over to the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire on Monday and equipped to international standards.

Renovation is currently ongoing and experts propose that the building can be upgraded to 300 bedrooms. Facilities will be provided by The Future Assured Program and managed by the Federal Capital Territory Coronavirus Committee.

After the pandemic, the property will be handed over to the Federal Ministry of Health and then reverted to the EFCC.
