Thursday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time. Year II. Reflection by Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

2 Tim. 2:8-15; Mark 12:28-34

Imagine the world without love; preachers preaching out of force of habit, not out of love for God or for His people. Imagine making tremendous sacrifices everyday just to prove a point to others, not out of love for God’s faithfulness… In my seminary days, one of the dismissal songs we loved most was “I thank you for your faithfulness and love, your love O Lord is eternal…” We would close our eyes and sing every word with passion.

Friends, Jesus tells us today that the most important commandments are love of God and love of neighbour. Yes! It is presumed that we must also love ourselves. When we truly love God with everything we have and are, our love for ourselves becomes healthier, seeking to share with others how grateful we are to God for his faithfulness and love. Friends, as St Paul says, even if we bring the world to its knees, but hath not love, we’re only noisemakers. Think about that for a moment.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
