Many may not know, but the Gospel single “Aban’aba” came to me in 2014. I was the assistant Priest at St Joseph Catholic Church, Igueben, at the time.

Aban’aba flier

Having just left Ambrose Alli University, it was bliss to finally have so much time on my hands. I would sit on my balcony and strum the strings of my guitar, waiting on God to give me inspiration for a song. It’s therefore not surprising that most of the songs on my Aban’aba Album were born on that balcony.

On this fateful day, I had just listened to a Gospel song on Dstv’s ‘One Gospel’ channel, when the inspiration gripped me to do a song of thanksgiving. For us ‘creatives’, we recognize inspiration when we ‘feel’ it. I quickly grabbed my guitar, jumped into my balcony and played the first draft of Aban’aba.

At that time, I had only the Chorus of the song. So I played it over and over till I got tired. Fast forward to 2018. I saw a flier on the first edition of WowCatholic’s Priest Got Talent show, and toyed with the idea of entering for the competition.

Apart from the fact that the prices were huge, I felt it would be an opportunity to put a song out there. Even then, I wasn’t going to do Aban’aba ‘cos I felt it wasn’t my best song. But a dear friend of mine insisted I do it. She said it was the best song she had ever heard me sing.

So after qualifying for the next stage of the Gospel Talent Show with another song, “How Could I say No”, I hit the studio and sat with Agabus Emmanuel (STAVES). We discussed the song idea and did the verses. His insights were a great inspiration to me.

Fast forward to July 2018. We went to Abuja, did the song, and emerged third place winners. Since 2018, Aban’aba continues to inspire many. I still think it strange that almost everyone thinks it’s my best song ever. I would pick another song “Where do I go”, as my best. But you see, God’s ways aren’t ours.

Aban’aba is a song of thanksgiving to God for all he’s been to me. I’m sure you also have reasons to thank God.

Warm regards,

LYRICS

Verse 1.
I thank you for my life
I thank you for the peace
I thank you for the love that you show to me at least
There is none like you
That’s why I live for you
You’re the one who made me to see another day,
You’re the air that I breathe
The song that I sing
You’re the one that I live for
My Lord and my King
Ooh oooh, ooh oooh.

Chorus
Aba, Baba eeee, aba. Aba o, babanaba eh hmmm (2x) Aba

(Father the Father…)

Abha, Abha miemhin soso nu’wei sa bolu baba.

(There is nothing you cannot do…)

Ma ghonien mhakhuemhenlen hei hmmm (2x) Baba

(We adore and give you thanks, Father).

Verse 2.
You’re the greatest God
I lift your name up.
You’re the one who made me
To be a King and Priest.
For it is your grace
That shines on my face,
I’m a product of your mercy
Cos you shed your blood for me.
You’re the air that I breathe
The song that I sing
You’re the one that I live for
My Lord and my King
Ooh ooh, ooh ooh.

Chorus
Aba, Baba eeee, aba. Aba o, babanaba eh (2x) Aba

Abha, Abha miemhin soso nu’wei sa bolu baba.
Ma ghonien mhakhuemhenlen (2x) Baba

Thank you for my life!!! (End)
