As reported by Reuters, a 57 year old man with underlying health conditions has passed on from the Coronavirus Disease in Madagascar making it the first registered death since the incidence of the virus two months ago on the island on the East Coast of Africa.


This incident was confirmed by Hanta Vololontiana who is the taskforce spokeswoman in a televised statement recounted by Reuters.

In her words:

A man died from COVID-19 in Madagascar … he is 57 years old and a member of the medical staff.

The deceased was a health worker who suffered diabetes and high blood pressure.

For about a month, Madagascar has been in the news for efficiency of the Covid-Organics, which is supposedly a cure for the Coronavirus Disease as purported by President Andry Rajoelina. The Covid-Organics is a product from a plant called artemisia and developed by the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research.


The efficacy of the drug was confirmed by the President of Madagascar, when in April he assured that clinical trials had been carried out and patients with Coronavirus were on their way to recovery.

All trials and tests have been conducted and its effectiveness in reducing and elimination of symptoms have been proven for the treatment of patients with COVID-19 in Madagascar.

Recently, neighbouring countries including Nigeria have placed orders for this drug.

As at Sunday afternoon, Madagascar, has 283 confirmed cases with 114 discharged and 1 death.
