Today’s Gospel, Matthew 19:3–12, takes us to the heart of Christian faithfulness. When the Pharisees question Jesus about divorce, He points them back to God’s original design: husband and wife are called to become one, and what God has joined together should not be treated lightly.
But this Gospel speaks beyond marriage. It challenges us to examine the seriousness with which we approach every commitment God has entrusted to us. Faithfulness is not proven only through great sacrifices or public acts of devotion. It is revealed in the little things—the promise we keep, the truth we speak, the forgiveness we offer, the responsibility we accept, and the love we continue to show when nobody is watching.
Jesus reminds us that genuine love is more than emotion. Love is a choice, a commitment and a sacrifice. It requires patience when circumstances are difficult, humility when we are hurt, and perseverance when giving up seems easier.
Each of us has a vocation and a responsibility before God. Whether married, single, young or old, we are called to love faithfully and serve generously.
Today, let us ask: Am I faithful to the promises I have made? Do my actions reflect the love I profess? Do I honour the people and responsibilities God has placed in my life?
May Christ teach us to transform ordinary acts of love into extraordinary offerings, and may our faithfulness in little things become a testimony of God’s presence in our lives.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, make me faithful, loving, patient and true. Help me honour my commitments and glorify You in all I do. Amen.
