The Gospel reading for today presents us with the parable of the wheat and the weeds. In this parable, Jesus speaks of the kingdom of heaven being like a field in which both wheat and weeds grow together. It is a powerful metaphor that unveils a fundamental truth: the coexistence of good and evil in our world. It is the enemy that sows weeds. In life, we encounter joy and suffering, righteousness and sin, growth and stagnation, all intertwined.
Friends, as we continue our journey of faith, may we be inspired by the parable of the wheat and the weeds, and more importantly, by God’s decision to let the wheat and weeds grow up together. Let us strive to cultivate the wheat of virtue, love, and holiness in our lives, while discerning and uprooting the weeds of sin and temptation. The Spirit of God makes it possible for us to keep striving to be better. Evil may seem to be winning today, but Jesus assures us that the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed; it has capacity to become the biggest shrub.
